tears in the broth

these are helpless days where  i search for inner strength and wish i had a worthy way with food like the other women in my family. i wish i didn't have such a demanding job. there are more important things to be doing.

like feeding her well and chasing away her anxieties and fears.

like getting rid of the clutter and carving out space for peace.

like letting go of the things, the things that simply don't matter and why have i thought for so long they do?

in these helpless days, I scour cookbooks to find something, anything that will build immunity and soothe, all the while plagued with the realization the task may be fruitless, and lament my life-long lack of interest in the culinary arts.  but, still, in the 11th hour, which i hope is only the 9th, no, the 7th if i am honest, i will try.

chicken soup for the soul. hers and mine. tears in the broth. and prayers.

Graciel...Miso soup is super good for immunity. FYI. After Hiroshima, there was a hospital full of doctors and nurses nearby who never got any radiation sickness. The doctors there attributed it to the staff having miso soup every morning for their breakfast. It's important not to overheat. Just add mushrooms -- also good for immunity -- to give it some bite. :( Much love to you and your mother. <3

  5. Are you familiar with elderberry extract? It boosts the immune system; I buy it by the pint jar at a health food store, then mixed with water to make a half gallon. I drink this about 3 to 4 times a year and I truly believe it helps boost my immune system.
Another help is Sambucol; developed by a female Isralie scientist. My husband swore it prevented upper respiratory illnesses and shortened the length of colds.
Granola and fruit for breakfast is easy to digest, easy to fix and nutritious.
A power shake - 1 can of Boost, banana, vanilla extract, dried milk and then enough fresh sweet milk to make 8 or 10 ounces. You can boost someone's protein intake enormously as well as vitamins and minerals in different flavors. I would give these to Dave and he gained the 30 pounds he lost while in treatment. It's easy to digest, easy to fix and it tastes great!
Forgive me for poking into the conversation; just thought these things might help you/your Mom.
    God bless you.
